Kanpur, Kalyanpur — a remarkable initiative aimed at bridging the gap between medical education and community health was launched at the Baniya Purwa Panchayat Bhawan, Kalyanpur. The Family Adoption Program, spearheaded by the Dr. BS Kushwah Institute of Medical Sciences, brought together prominent healthcare professionals and local leaders to strengthen grassroots healthcare.
The program commenced under the guidance of Dr. Prem Kumar Singh, Principal of Dr. BS Kushwah Institute of Medical Sciences. Key dignitaries in attendance included Dr. Harish Chandra Paliwal, Professor and Head of Community Medicine, Dr. Rajeev Saxena, Professor of Microbiology, and Dr. Avinash Yadav, Medical Officer In-Charge of Kalyanpur. Local administration and welfare authorities, such as Mr. Durgesh Pratap Singh (DPO, ICDS), Mr. Manoj Kumar (DPRO, Kanpur Nagar), Mrs. Jyotsna Tripathi (BDO, Kalyanpur), and Mrs. Preeti Nishad (Gram Pradhan, Baniya Purwa), also lent their support to the initiative.
The highlight of the event was the participation of 75 first-year MBBS students, who were each assigned families in the village for detailed assessments of their demographic and health-related issues. In total, 425 families from Baniya Purwa were adopted by these budding doctors, ensuring a focused and personalized approach to community healthcare.
“This program not only serves as an experiential learning platform for medical students but also addresses critical health and social challenges faced by rural families,” said Dr. Harish Chandra Paliwal, emphasizing the dual benefits of education and service.
The initiative marks a significant step towards fostering stronger community ties and enhancing the practical skills of future medical professionals while improving healthcare accessibility for the village residents.
